These terms govern your use of DM Scribe. They are written to be read, not to be survived — plain sentences, short sections, and no clause that says something different from what the product does.
By creating an account or using DM Scribe, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are using DM Scribe on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation.
If you do not agree, do not use the service. Your continued use after a change to these terms means you accept the updated version — see "Changes to these terms" below for how changes are communicated.
These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what data the service handles and why.
You must be at least 13 years old to hold a DM Scribe account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use DM Scribe only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms.
DM Scribe is not directed at children. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13. If you believe an account belongs to a child below that age, contact us and we will remove it.
This matters more than it does for most software, because the service processes recordings of everyone at your table — see "Recording other people" below.
DM Scribe takes audio you upload from a tabletop roleplaying session and produces a transcript, a written recap, a campaign wiki of the people, places and things mentioned, a relationship map between them, and a question-answering feature grounded in your own campaign material.
Every one of those outputs is generated by automated systems, including large language models. They are drafts. They will sometimes be wrong, miss things, or invent detail that was never said at your table. Treat them as a starting point you review, not as a record of fact.
Features change. We add, alter and remove functionality, and plan limits may change on notice. Some features are limited to particular plans, and some are released in an early or experimental state.
You are responsible for your account credentials and for everything done through your account. Use a password you do not use elsewhere, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
You agree to give accurate registration information and to keep your email address current — it is how we send password resets, billing notices and the notification that a session has finished processing.
Changing your password signs out existing sessions on other devices. Access tokens are otherwise valid for up to seven days, so signing out of one browser does not by itself revoke access everywhere.
Accounts are personal. Do not share one set of credentials among several people; where a plan supports linking several accounts, use that instead.
This is the most important obligation in these terms, and the one most specific to what DM Scribe does. When you record a session you are recording your players, not just yourself. Their voices, names and anything personal they say around the table end up in the audio, the transcript, and everything generated from it.
You are responsible for having the right to make and upload that recording. Before you record, tell everyone at the table that the session is being recorded, what it will be used for, and that the audio is processed by automated transcription and AI services. Get their agreement. If anyone declines, do not record them.
Recording laws differ by country and, in the United States, by state — some require the consent of every person being recorded, not just one. Complying with the law that applies to you and your table is your responsibility, not ours. We do not and cannot verify that consent was obtained.
If a player later withdraws consent, you can delete the recording and the session from your account. See "Data retention" in the Privacy Policy for what deletion does and does not reach.
Do not upload recordings of anything other than a game session you organised or took part in with the knowledge of those present — for example, do not upload meetings, calls, lectures or conversations captured without the participants knowing.
You keep ownership of everything you put into DM Scribe: your audio, your transcripts, your campaign notes, your wiki entries, and the world you have written. We claim no ownership of it and we do not sell it.
To actually run the service we need permission to handle that content — to store it, transmit it, convert audio formats, send it to the AI providers listed in the Privacy Policy for processing, display it back to you, and show it to anyone you deliberately share it with. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to do those things, and only those things, for as long as you keep the content in your account.
That licence exists so the software can function. It is not a licence to publish your campaign, license it onward, or use it in marketing. If we ever want to quote your campaign publicly, we will ask you first.
As between you and us, output generated from your content — recaps, wiki entries, relationship maps — is yours as well. Note that the legal status of AI-generated material is unsettled in several jurisdictions and may not attract copyright protection in the way human-authored work does. We make no representation about that.
Transcription, entity extraction, recaps and campaign answers are produced by automated models. They are frequently useful and reliably imperfect. Names get misheard. Events get compressed or confused. The question-answering feature cites the passages it drew on precisely so you can check it rather than trust it.
You are responsible for reviewing anything you rely on or share. Do not use DM Scribe output as the authoritative record of anything that matters outside your game.
We make no warranty about transcription accuracy, and accuracy varies considerably with recording quality, microphone placement, crosstalk, accents and background noise. Our recording guides cover what actually makes the difference.
DM Scribe offers a free plan and paid subscriptions. Current plans, prices and included limits are on the pricing page, which is the authoritative source — these terms deliberately do not restate prices, so the two can never disagree.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number; Stripe handles card data directly under its own terms.
Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period — monthly or yearly, whichever you chose — at the price then in effect, until you cancel. Prices exclude taxes unless stated otherwise; where we are required to collect tax, it is added at checkout.
Usage allowances (such as monthly transcription hours) reset each billing period and do not roll over. Separately purchased hour bundles are a one-time balance that is consumed after your monthly allowance and does not expire at the period boundary.
If a payment fails we may retry it and may suspend paid features until it succeeds. Your data is not deleted because a payment failed.
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in your account. Cancellation stops the next renewal; it does not end the period you have already paid for, and you keep paid features until that period ends.
After that, your account reverts to the free plan. Content that exceeds free-plan limits is not deleted — it may simply become read-only or unavailable to add to until you upgrade again.
Payments already made are non-refundable except where a refund is required by law, or where we choose to offer one. If you think you have been charged in error, contact us — billing mistakes get fixed.
Use DM Scribe for running and remembering your games. Do not use it to:
We work to keep DM Scribe available but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Processing is asynchronous and depends on third-party AI and cloud providers; outages, queues and delays happen.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service. If we discontinue something you depend on, or make a materially adverse change to a paid plan, we will give reasonable notice by email to the address on your account.
Some features are offered in an early state and may be changed or withdrawn without the notice above.
You may stop using DM Scribe at any time.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that creates legal risk for us or another user, or that is being used to attack the service. Where the circumstances allow it, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right; where they do not — unlawful content, an active attack — we may act immediately.
On termination your right to use the service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive — ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity — do survive.
DM Scribe is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that transcripts or AI output will be accurate, or that data loss will never occur. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is so, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by agreement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DM Scribe is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost data, lost campaign content, or loss of goodwill, however caused and on any theory of liability.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty US dollars.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DM Scribe and the people who operate it against claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your content, your use of the service, your breach of these terms, or your failure to obtain the consents described in "Recording other people".
We may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
For material changes that affect your rights, we will give notice by email to the address on your account or by a notice in the application before the change takes effect. If you do not accept a change, your remedy is to stop using the service and cancel any paid plan.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force and the unenforceable provision is limited to the minimum extent necessary.
Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
